Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop Peter Smith as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton

In Vatican today (4th October) it was announced that Pope Francis has accepted the resignation from office of the Rt Rev Kieran Conry. With the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton having no bishop (described asSede Vacante) the Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Peter Smith as Apostolic Administrator of that Diocese until such time as a new Bishop takes up the office of Diocesan Bishop. This temporary role is in addition to his duties as the Archbishop of Southwark, and he will continue to live and work at Archbishop’s House while providing support to the people and clergy of Arundel and Brighton.
