Bishop Named for Nottingham, England

Pope Francis has appointed Monsignor Patrick McKinney, 61, as the bishop of Nottingham, England.
Patrick McKinney was born in Birmingham, England, in 1954 and was ordained a priest in 1978.
He holds a licentiate in sacred theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, and has served in a number of pastoral roles in the Archdiocese of Birmingham, including parish assistant, teacher of fundamental theology and subsequently rector of the Seminary of St. Mary’s, parish priest, episcopal vicar for the northern sector of Birmingham, and vicar forane of the deanery of Dudley. He was named Prelate of Honour of His Holiness in 1990.
The Diocese of Nottingham has a population of some 4,535,000, with 155,00 Catholics. They are served by some 160 priests, and about 40 permanent deacons and 100 religious.
Comment: Notwithstanding the above information from the Vatican and Zenith, Bishop-elect McKinney is actually a native of Buncrana, Co. Donegal which is part of the Diocese of Derry! He was not born in Birmingham, though his parents moved to there when he was very young.
