First lay woman appointed Chancellor

The Diocese of Galloway has appointed the first lay woman Chancellor. Ann Tierney will take up her post on Friday 1 July.

Commenting on the appointment, Bishop Bill Nolan of Galloway said:

“I am delighted that Ann Tierney has agreed to accept this post. She has been the PA to my two predecessors, Bishop Taylor and Bishop Cunningham. She is well respected by the clergy and laity of the Diocese and she is eminently qualified to carry out this role.”

Ann commented:
“I have been with the diocese for the last thirty years and have carried out a wide variety of tasks during that time. It is an honour to have been considered for this position and I now look forward to the additional challenges which this new appointment will bring.”

The position of Chancellor in most Dioceses is carried out by a priest, but can be fulfilled by a lay person. Ann Tierney is the first lay woman to hold this post.
